George Artis Dead.
George Artis died at the home of Hal
Schureman Tuesday night at eleven o’clock at the age of 44 years. The funeral
will be held this Thursday at the M.E. church at 2 o’clock, conducted by
Rev. Evans and burial will be made in the Allen cemetery.

George Artis Laid to
Rest.
The funeral of George Artis was held at the Allen M.E. church last
Thursday at 3 o’clock and Wm. Conrad preached an impressive sermon, assised
by Rev. Evans. The church was crowded with relatives and friends of
the deceased, who knew and sympathized with him during his many long years
of patient suffering which death alone could relieve. After the services
the remains were conveyed to the Allen cemetery and laid to rest.

OBITUARY
George Washington Artis was born in Wataga,
Illinois, May 23, 1872, departed this life May 22, 1917, age 44 years, 11
months and 29 days.
He moved with his parents to Centerville Iowa, in 1874 and while there
was first stricken with rheumatism at the age of nine year. They next
moved to western Kansas, and from there to near Allen, in 1888 they moved
to Allen in 1911 with John Artis, where they remained until the mothers health
failed in April 1916, when they moved out to the home of his sister, Mrs.
Hal Schurman where he died. He was a constant sufferer and helpless
invalid for thirty years.
He leaves to mourn his loss, 2 brothers and 3 sisters; John Artis
Allen, Jane Strickler of Centerville, Iowa, Jake Artis, Deer Creek Okla.,
Lou Campbell, Admire, Kans., Etta Schurman, Allen, Kans. Of all whom
were at the bed-side except Jake Artis. His father proceeded him 10
years, having died May 7, 1907. His mother died August 23, 1916.
