Joseph Artis Passes Away
Joseph Artis, one of the old settlers of this vicinity died at his
home southwest of Admire Monday, after a sickness lasting over a year.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the M.E. Church in Allen, conducted
by Rev. Chas. Mellors, of the M.P. Church, after which the body was interred
in the Allen cemetery.
Mr. Artis was confined to his home for over a year with sickness,
his ailment being of a dropsical nature complicated by old age.
Joseph Artis was born in Carol County, Pa., and was 83 years and
two months old at his death. When a young man he moved to Iowa, from
which place he came to Kansas in 1884, settling in Lyon County, where he has
since resided. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss,
the children being John Artis, who was at home at the time of his death, Jake
Artis, of Comiskey, Mrs. Harry Schureman, south of Allen, Mrs. Harry Campbell
of Admire, and Mrs. Jane Strickler, of Centerville, Iowa.
The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in
their sad affliction.
