For almost a hundred years, the one room school houses of North Lyon County provided more than just an education for the children.  They provided a center point for the surrounding farmers and ranchers.  They Served as a community meeting place and often as a church meeting place.

No longer used for educational purposes some have been left to fall little by little as the years pass, many have vanished, and some are still being lovingly maintained.  Regardless of their present state all have played a large roll in the family life and development of Lyon County.

In order to preserve the history not only of the rural schools but also of northern Lyon County, Lyon County Library District No. 1 in Allen, Kansas has been collecting and organizing as much of the remaining information as possible.  If you have additional pictures or information concerning Lyon County's rural schools please contact us at:
