| For almost a hundred years, the one room school houses of
North Lyon County provided more than just an education for the
children. They provided a center point for the surrounding
farmers and ranchers. They Served as a community meeting place
and often as a church meeting place.
No longer used for
educational purposes some have been left to fall little by little as
the years pass, many have vanished, and some are still being lovingly
maintained. Regardless of their present state all have played a
large roll in the family life and development of Lyon County.
In order to preserve the
history not only of the rural schools but also of northern Lyon County,
Lyon County Library District No. 1 in Allen, Kansas has been collecting
and organizing as much of the remaining information as possible.
